Sophie + Luke’s Modern Boho Osteria Wedding on the Tweed Coast
Sophie and Luke were married on the 2nd of November, at Osteria in Casuarina on the beautiful Tweed Coast. Surrounded by family and friends that had travelled from all parts of world – their celebration was absolutely stunning, with the talented Daniel Chafer Photography capturing every moment!
Read below as Sophie shares some great tips on how to recreate this look, plus a few super clever cost saving ideas!
ABOUT THE DAY //
Having moved to the Gold Coast from South Australia, we were torn of where to get married as we had friends and family scattered all over the country. We are so happy with our choice to be married in Casuarina on the Tweed Coast, it is such a beautiful part of the world and we were so happy our friends and family got to see our new home.
ABOUT THE STYLE //
We had originally wanted a beachy, super casual wedding but after seeing Osteria decided that was the venue for us. As Osteria has a beautiful, rustic vibe to it we went for what I guess you would call a ‘modern boho’ theme. Pinterest was my number one source of inspiration, as was looking at other people’s weddings on TikTok, then I was able to source a lot of the items I wanted from Etsy, Amazon and even Facebook Marketplace.
CEREMONY SONG //
I walked down the aisle to ‘With Me’ by Sum 41 – it was a bit of a different take for a wedding, but it was a song that meant a lot to me. My husband and I both have an alternative taste in music and found it a bit tricky trying to pick family friendly wedding songs. I can still remember listening to Sum 41 as a 16 year old on my trusty blue iPod mini, wondering what my future would hold, so it was a very nostalgic choice for me..
FIRST DANCE SONG //
Another nod to our ‘elder emo’ music taste, our first dance was to ‘Follow You’ by Bring Me The Horizon. When we moved from Adelaide to the Gold Coast, BMTH played non stop during our 4 days of very long drives. They were the first band that we saw together as a couple, and it was just an easy choice for us.
DIY PROJECTS
A big part of choosing Osteria for our wedding was how beautiful the space was even without any decorations added to it. The garden, the lights, the rustic vibes, it didn’t really need a lot of add ons to make it look beautiful. I did our invitations, signage and menus on Canva with editable templates from Etsy (highly recommend Amor Wedding Templates). For flowers I wanted to keep costs down, so I used a combination of artificial silk and real flowers. Our arbour, welcome sign and signing tables florals were from Etsy, and nobody had idea that they weren’t real. I then showed photos to the local florist and she made my bridal bouquet to match, as well as ordered flowers for bud vases on the tables. This meant I was able to resell the flowers and the bud vases, and make a little bit of money back afterwards! We also had a beautiful mirror welcome sign, with a decal from FixateDesigns on Etsy – sadly our mirror fell victim to the wind during cocktail hour but it made for a funny story afterwards.
FAVOURITE MOMENT //
Luke has said his favourite moment of the day was seeing my walk down the aisle, and realising that it was all real. My favourite part of the day was probably sitting back enjoying a drink and listening to the speeches, feeling very loved that so many people had travelled from different parts of Australia for our special day.
NUMBER ONE TIP //
You know yourself and how you handle stress better than anyone, so make sure you keep that in mind when planning the lead up to the day. I am someone that is prone to migraines, especially when I’m busy, so I made sure I didn’t overload myself with appointments and tasks the week of the wedding. We both opted for a smaller bridal party with just one special person each, which meant getting ready wasn’t as chaotic and we could have a bit of a sleep in
