Melissa + James :: Boho Romance at Osteria

Melissa and James’ Osteria wedding was all about those good vibes! Describing their day as fun and light-hearted with plenty of laughs, this relaxed Tweed Coast wedding was perfectly executed with a dream team of local suppliers.

Designed with rich, earthy colours, wild blooms and modern bohemian styling, these guys tied the knot in an intimate garden ceremony followed by a truly epic portrait session with the Figtree Pictures team. We’re talking colourful smoke bombs, burnt orange skies and an entire bridal party decked out with matching fedora’s – serious wedding photo goals!

Back at the Osteria hall, a romantic reception space was styled with berry-toned blooms, blush linen napkins and a statement lighting installation, ready for guests to let their hair down. You can see all of the dreamy details for yourself below, as Melissa and Jimmy talk us through their favourite moments from the day and their wedding planning tips for Tweed Coast couples.

ABOUT THE DAY //

As we had a lot of interstate guests, Jimmy and I found it really important to find a venue that would host both the ceremony and reception at the same location.

We also wanted a venue that was licenced past 10.00 pm, so this is why we chose Osteria. It honestly was the perfect venue. We wanted a light-hearted wedding, nothing too serious and with a lot of laughs to be had. I would honestly say from the ceremony to our vows being read and all the way through to our speeches, there wouldn’t have been one person who didn’t have a little chuckle.

ABOUT THE STYLING //

Our wedding was a boho-inspired theme. From the very get-go, I already knew in my mind what I had envisioned for the day. I really wanted to set a romantic mood and feel throughout the venue. Incorporated into the colour scheme were deep purples, reds, blush pinks, creams and hints of gold. These colours were incorporated into our flowers, arbour, table arrangements and other decorations.

We also had a 10-metre ladder installed to give the space that extra wow. The lighting and foilage instalment turned out amazing and I’m so glad that we went ahead and chose to do it because it really made the room feel complete. I remember walking into the reception for the first time with the lights dimmed and the room all complete. It literally brought a tear to my eye. A whole 18 months of planning and my vision had honestly come to life. It was such a nice moment.

CEREMONY SONG //

Jackson James Smith – Turns Out You’re My Lady

This song felt a real connection with both of us – the lyrics were felt like our relationship and we also both loved the artist, Jackson. So it just felt like it had to be our aisle song 🙂

FIRST DANCE SONG //

Bee Gee’s – To Love Somebody

Same as above – we both love the Bee Gees and also loved this song and its lyrics 🙂 We didn’t want to have a typical first dance song. We wanted ours to be a little different

DIY PROJECTS //

I was pretty time-poor on the lead up to the wedding so I wasn’t able to do many DIY projects.

However, I did download bar/drink templates from an online source, printed them at Officeworks and put them in white Kmart photo frames. It was so simple to do and cost me a fraction of the cost.

FAVOURITE MOMENT //

This is such a hard question because I felt like the whole day had its own special moments for their own special reasons.

But I would say the moment I was standing in front of my soon to be husband, looking around at all of our witnesses (our friends and family) who all had travelled far (WA and Tassie) and knowing that my father was also able to be there with his photo sitting on a front-row seat was pretty special. It was the first time in our whole relationship when we had all of the people we both loved, all at the same place.

NUMBER ONE TIP //

Everyone told us that the day would go so fast and it would be all over in a blink of an eye and they were right. I’m so glad we chose Osteria because they were licenced the latest. If there was one thing that I would change, I would have chosen an earlier ceremony time.

The day and night just really slips away from you. After having done all the formalities such as the ceremony, photos, speeches, eating and so forth, before you know it, you only have a few hours to actually mingle with everyone and let your hair down.
