Wow factors, custom theming, bespoke gifts and personalised activities will more than likely sit on every couple’s “ideas” list when wedding planning. Every couple wants to make their wedding day, authentically “them” and have their guests walking away saying “wow” – but Katie and Brodie really took it to the next level. We don’t want to spoil it, but there was something pretty wow about the Groom’s arrival to the Summergrove Estate ceremony and a super fun personalised way to start their fun-packed reception.

We’ll leave it to Katie to tell you about it…

Our wedding day was such an amazing celebration of our love and the life we have created together and I am so thankful that our 2.5-year-old son was there and involved in such a special day.

The weather was absolutely perfect and the majority of the day went seamlessly (and way too fast).
We wanted to make our wedding as personal as possible and there were touch points throughout that made it so unique and special for us. Things like naming the tables after countries we had been to together such as Hawaii where we got engaged and Mexico where we had our first kiss) to surprise presents for each other and our parents.

Brodie and his groomsmen arrived at the ceremony by helicopter which was such a welcome surprise to both the groomsmen and all the guests at the wedding. The guests watched the helicopter fly right at the venue and land less than 100 metres from the ceremony and cheered loudly as the boys had their movie star moment walking directly from the chopper to take their places at the ceremony.

We chose a romantic but modern style that worked in perfectly with the Hamptons vibe of the newly built barn at Summergrove Estate. I found great inspiration from Pinterest throughout the planning process and worked with the expertise of my suppliers to help it come together.
The flowers were done by the incredible Lauren from Wild Magnolia Designs and they were one of my aspects of the day and helped set the natural tone of our wedding. The candles were something I found difficult to make a decision on and finally settled on some white candles and brass geometric candle holders from Kmart. Not only were they SO cheap but they dressed the table perfectly alongside our floral arrangements.
For the ceremony, we wanted to make the most of the incredible views and work in the stunning natural surrounds of Summergrove. We chose white cross backed chairs and a natural timber arbour.

Our ceremony song was ‘Your Song’ by Elton John but it was sung acoustically by the incredible Tom Francis. This has been one of Brodie’s favourite songs for a very long time and it fits perfectly with the sound we wanted for the day. It made it so special to walk down the aisle towards Brodie knowing how happy this song made him.

Our first dance song was ‘Can’t help falling in love’ by Ingrid Michaelson. We wanted something classic but with a refreshing acoustic twist and as soon as we came across this song we knew it would be perfect. It also represents the beginning of our relationship as we were friends for a long time, and even though Brodie joked about marrying me from the day we met, I was sure we would always remain ‘just friends’. Turns out life has other plans and I literally couldn’t help myself falling in love with him.

We were fortunate to have a range of incredible suppliers who did most of the work for us. We did play a game at the start of the reception to loosen everyone up before speeches. I had printed out baby photos of both Brodie and I and stuck them on little sticks. The MC asked everyone to stand up and guess whether the question he read was best applied to the bride or the groom. If you were incorrect you sat down and the last man standing was the winner. We had 120 guests at the wedding and each needed a photo of both Brodie and myself. My Mum and I spent many nights cutting and glueing 240 faces to cardboard and sticks in preparation for the game.

Walking into the reception together as husband and wife. We danced into one of our favourite songs which brings back such fond memories. It was so special to have all our favourite people together cheering, celebrating and toasting to our future.

If you can, try and put plans in place in advance, so you are doing as little as possible on the day. I had organised everything myself prior to the day but had organised an external wedding coordinator on the day to set up the little things and make sure everything was in place. This was so helpful as it allowed me to sit back and really enjoy every part of the day as it goes way too quickly!
