We had the pleasure of sitting down for a quick chat with Judi, the head buyer from Hampton Event Hire to hear a little bit about what makes them tick and what she sees as the key wedding style trends in 2017 and beyond.

Judi has a rich history in the wedding industry, she and her husband Kris started the super stylish Little Gray Station wedding styling and hire company, before moving on from that business to solely concentrate on Wedding and Event hire with the formation of Hampton Event Hire in early 2015.

Since then, the team at Hampton Event Hire, owners Judi, Kris, and their long time hire co-ordinator Nicole along with their ever growing warehouse team, have been the market leader in wedding hire and in particular cutting edge style for the wedding industry not only on the Tweed Coast, but all of Australia.

What is your favourite thing about coming to work every day?

“Being in the hustle and bustle of a busy workplace is motivating, our team is fun and light-hearted, we always solve the problems of the world each day (or at least our world) and have a good laugh.”

What do you see as the key 2017 styling trends and “must haves”?

“I feel 2017 will be the most groundbreaking for trends in the last five years. Expect to see lots of wire chairs and décor pieces, whites, metallic gold and blacks. There will be more of a focus on choosing stunning décor pieces and floral arrangements and less attention on the small fine details that have captured the trends over the last few years. 2017 will bring fresh tones, some pops of colour and some pastels in the décor elements. Having worked as Head Buyer for Hampton Event Hire for the last five years, 2017 is turning out to be my favourite “trending” year. Stripping back on the finer elements and details really allow you to create a big and immediate impact when your guests enter the venue. Lighting installations was a big MUST in 2015 and 2016; however, you will see less ceiling installations and more uplighting and dare I say it – even some coloured lights in very soft tones nothing that is neon or bright or contradicting to the pallet you are trying to create. If you are going to incorporate some coloured lights remember LESS IS MORE, do not overindulge, be smart and sparing where and how you use them!”

Your suggestions on how to go about a DIY styled wedding;

“DIY styling has become much more accessible for couples who are styling their own wedding. It is important to have a clear vision of the day you are wanting to create. You may have 50 great ideas of things you have seen and loved, but it does not necessarily mean you have to incorporate ALL of your ideas. Remember 2017 is about “impact” not the tiny details that go unnoticed by 90% of your guests. There are so many great websites that allow you to put together a wedding vision board, start saving your images and creating a board. To create a cohesive vision, the images/products must balance and work well together. If something is not blending or working, you may have to reconsider some of your ideas. Don’t hesitate to ask the experts!
