How to Get the Most Out of the 2026 Tweed Winter Wedding Trail

The Tweed Winter Wedding Trail is back on Sunday 23 August 2026, giving you the chance to spend the day exploring some of the Tweed region’s most beautiful wedding venues, meeting talented local suppliers and gathering plenty of inspiration along the way.

Whether you’ve just started planning, you’re still searching for your dream venue, or you’re putting the finishing touches on your wedding, the Winter Wedding Trail is an opportunity to get out and experience your options in person.

And with multiple venues and suppliers to discover across the Tweed, a little planning beforehand can make a big difference.

Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your day.

Register for your free ticket

The Tweed Winter Wedding Trail is completely free to attend, but make sure you register before the event.

By registering, you’ll receive important event information and everything you need to start planning your day.

Venue opening times will vary, so make sure you check the latest event information before finalising your itinerary.

Don’t forget to plan your route.

While it can be tempting to jump in the car and see where the day takes you, you’ll get much more out of the trail if you have a rough plan before you leave.

Start by deciding which venues are your absolute must-sees.

Then look at where each venue is located and group nearby stops together rather than travelling back and forth across the Tweed.

Remember to check individual venue opening times too. Some may open or close earlier than others, so this can help determine where you start and finish your day.

You don’t need to plan every minute, but having a rough route will mean less time in the car and more time enjoying the trail.

Factor lunch into your itinerary

It sounds simple, but don’t forget to eat!

The Winter Wedding Trail can quickly turn into a very full day, particularly if you have several venues on your list.

When planning your route, consider timing one of your stops around an area where you can easily grab lunch or a coffee. This saves making an unnecessary detour halfway through the day and nobody makes their best wedding decisions hungry.

Research the suppliers before the day

The venues are only part of the Trail.

You’ll also have the opportunity to meet a huge range of talented local wedding suppliers throughout the day.

Before you set off, look through the supplier lineup at each venue and make a note of anyone you particularly want to meet.

Already looking for a photographer? Write down the photographers you’d love to speak with.

Still need a celebrant, florist or musician? Work them into your route.

And don’t forget to check the Trail offers and specials. Some venues and suppliers may have offers available specifically for couples attending the event.

Doing a little research beforehand means you’re not trying to take everything in at once when you arrive.

Know what you want to ask

The Wedding Trail is an amazing opportunity to speak directly with venues and suppliers.

Before the day, write down the questions you really want answered.

If you’re looking at venues, think beyond simply asking about price. Consider things such as wet-weather options, inclusions, ceremony locations, guest numbers, styling restrictions, accommodation and what happens behind the scenes on your wedding day.

Not sure what to ask? Read our 11 Essential Wedding Venue Questions before the Trail and save the questions that matter most to you.

The same applies to suppliers.

Rather than spending your limited time asking questions you could easily find on their website, use the opportunity to find out the things that will actually help you decide whether they’re right for your wedding.

Ask about your wedding date, their packages, how they work on the day and anything particularly important to you.

Don’t forget to check availability

Found someone you love?

One of the most useful questions you can ask is also one of the simplest:

Are you available on our wedding date?

If you’ve already booked your date, have it saved somewhere easy to access so you can quickly check availability with venues and suppliers you’re interested in.

It can save a lot of back-and-forth after the Trail.

If a supplier is busy, don’t wait around

The Trail can get busy, and some suppliers may already be chatting with another couple when you arrive.

You don’t necessarily need to wait.

If they’re someone you’re really interested in working with, grab their details and send them a direct enquiry. Include your wedding date, venue if you already have one, and what you’d like to know.

You can always arrange a proper conversation after the Trail when neither of you is watching the clock.

Get a feel for the people, not just their work

Websites, Instagram feeds and portfolios can tell you a lot about someone’s work.

Meeting them tells you something completely different.

Your wedding suppliers are going to be part of some pretty important moments, so use the Trail to see how you connect with them personally.

Do you feel comfortable talking to them? Do they understand what you’re looking for? Can you imagine having them around on your wedding day?

That personal connection matters.

At the same time, remember there are plenty of couples and suppliers trying to make the most of the day. Have a meaningful conversation, ask your important questions, grab their details and keep moving.

If they feel like the right fit, you can continue the conversation after the Trail.

Take photos and notes as you go

After several venues, ceremony spaces, photographers, florists and conversations, things can start to blur together. Take photos where permitted and keep quick notes on your phone throughout the day. They don’t need to be detailed.

“LOVED the ceremony space.”
“Ask about wet weather.”
“Photographer, loved their style.”
“Check availability.”

A few words now can save you trying to remember which venue had that incredible reception space three days later.

Leave yourself a little breathing room

Finally, don’t schedule your day so tightly that you’re racing from one venue to the next.

Part of the value of the Winter Wedding Trail is being able to experience each venue when it’s set up, meet the people behind the businesses and imagine what your own wedding could look like there.

Give yourself enough time to wander, explore and enjoy it.

You might discover a venue you hadn’t originally considered or meet a supplier who completely changes the direction of your wedding plans.

Sometimes the unexpected finds are the best ones.
