With our incredible coastline, pristine beaches and picture-perfect weather, we’re pretty damn lucky to have some of the best wedding venues in the country right on our doorstep here on the Tweed Coast!

Babalou – situated on the Kingscliff esplanade – is a venue that perfectly blends the indoors with the outdoors, and Crystal and Jeremy’s luxe wedding was filled with all of the romantic beach vibes. From the bold, berry-toned blooms to the beachfront portraits and intimate dinner party setting, these guys styled their day so beautifully with a dream team of local suppliers.

We chat to the lovely Crystal about her romantic party planning, styling inspiration, and her favourite moment of the day below.

When we both described what our ideal wedding day would be, thankfully, we were both on the same page. We wanted to be surrounded by all the people we love for a relaxed, light hearted and fun ceremony followed by the biggest party of our lives. And that’s what it was!

I found Babalou when searching for venues online and we fell in love with it’s bright, open plan right away! We originally wanted to have the ceremony down by the water but found most of the locations nearby were quite public and not as intimate as we had hoped for, so we decided to have it inside and absolutely loved our decision! Our guests were kept toasty inside and we had champagne waiting for everyone as soon as we were presented as Mr & Mrs to begin the celebrating.

It was so important for us to have our daughters part of the ceremony and to share that moment with them. They were carried down the aisle (too shy to walk) and ran laps around us while we said our vows to each other – it was a really special moment and memory for us to share with them forever. You couldn’t wipe the smile off our faces all day and night!

We didn’t go into planning with a set style but I’d say it felt soft and romantic. Our floral arrangements were spread throughout the space and were filled with lots of pampas, soft pinks, deep reds and pops of white. We wanted our reception to feel really warm and comfortable, so kept the styling simple with our florals and a bunch of gold brass candle holders spread amongst all the tables and filled with black candles. I absolutely loved the black candles!
This vision carried through with our choice of having shared plates for everyone’s meals. The tables looked unreal when everything was placed down – I felt really overwhelmed with happiness seeing it all come together and our friends and families laughing and interacting with each other when seated.

‘Angels’ by The XX – We have a number of special songs to us, but most didn’t fit what we needed. We didn’t choose our aisle song until our first meeting with our beautiful celebrant and she gave us a few songs she had seen and loved during past ceremonies.
We played the list and when we came to Angels, we both got an overwhelming wave of emotions and knew it was the song. I definitely cried once or twice when I listened to it again by myself!

An Acoustic cover of ‘Power Trip’ by J. Cole sung by Luna Blake – When we first started dating Jeremy made me a mixtape full of all his favourite songs with a few hidden love songs within. This one quickly became our song, so much so that we got a matching tattoo referencing it on our 2 year anniversary.

If I had to just choose one, it would have been hearing Jeremy’s vows and story of the moment he knew he was in love with me that was mentioned in our ceremony. From day dot we have always been extremely open about our feelings towards each other, so it’s rare to hear certain memories and moments that he has kept to himself all these years. It really caught me off guard, in the best way possible.

It was really important for us to involve our Mothers in the ceremony, so we asked them both to hold each of our rings and stand beside us to give them to us both. We are so glad we were able to make them part of such a big moment.
