Chernay + Angus :: Sassy Summergrove Estate Wedding

“Sassy” – lively, bold and full of spirit. This is a perfect way to describe Chernay and Angus’ Summergrove Estate Wedding. Chernay and Angus are each others ying to their yang –  Chernay, a self confessed perfectionist, and Angus, a pretty laid back person, happy to go with the flow, so long as the beers are cold. Teamed up, and with the help of some of Tweed Coast Weddings finest suppliers, these guys created an absolutely amazing wedding!

ABOUT THE DAY //
Our wedding day was everything who we are, two unique opposites who complement each other perfectly. I love the finer details and planning of small intricate details. Angus, a more unadorned man, only wanted some cool cars and a few beers with boys. We wanted a less traditional ceremony that was true to our fun, spontaneous personalities, and it was essential to me to have a celebrant like Clarah who really could make it funny and lighthearted. We didn’t take our photos too seriously, and we had a lot of fun being ourselves, skipped many of the formalities of a traditional wedding, and had a massive party, which is very much what we do best.

ABOUT THE STYLE //
Summergrove is a beautiful venue, so we wanted to bring a style that complemented the spaces. Particularly pulling in light and soft elements, which paired well with the blank canvas of the barn and chapel. This was achieved through candlelight peppered amongst an abundance of delicate florals, creating a beautiful balance of colour and texture. But, of course, we wanted our guests to be wowed, and the combination of styling by Sweet Little Sunday and blooms by Florals and Co did just that.

Another element that tied the whole look together was our stationery. Again, it was important that these elements were timeless and of excellent quality. The perfect touches were White Lane Designs, signage, and menu/place cards. We can’t fault the work this design powerhouse creates.

CEREMONY SONG //
I’m With You, by Vance Joy. At first, the song had no particular significance; we simply could not choose a song we both liked enough. However, when sung so beautifully by Danielle Guest on the day, who kindly learnt the song just for us, it’s now a particular song we will forever hold close to our hearts.

FIRST DANCE SONG //
Our first dance was not the classic romantic waltz, my husband and I met at a music festival and are lovers of dance, so our first dance was to some deep house and techno.

DIY CREATIONS //
We made sugar cookies for all the guests as wedding favours, these were in the white boxes you see styled on the table.

FAVOURITE MOMENT //
My favourite moment of the day was when the doors opened at the chapel, and I saw all our friends and family there for us, and of course, my husband, the man of little emotion, shedding a tear or two as I walked down the aisle.

NUMBER ONE TIP //
If you are a bride like me, conscientious and a perfectionist at heart, I worked tirelessly to create my dream wedding down to every fine detail and worried I might go into behind-the-scenes-coordinator mode on the day. My advice is just to surrender and trust your amazing vendors. Please find a way to slow down and enjoy the day and consider taking a short break to be alone with your partner after the ceremony; for us, this included chucking on a pair of sassy sunnies and enjoying our favourite ice cream by Wheel and Spoon. Your wedding day will move fast – and you don’t want to miss it.
