Here on the Tweed Coast, we get the best of all worlds when it comes to landscapes for your wedding backdrop. Couples who select a Tweed Coast wedding venue like Osteria, are so lucky that they don’t have to make the choice between a beach wedding and a lush bush wedding.

Carlie and Matt certainly made the most of their surrounds with a garden ceremony, bridal party photos in the paperbarks and lovers shots at Casuarina beach, all within mere minutes of each other. Glowing Bride, Carlie tells us all about their relaxed wedding day.

Our wedding was so relaxed and so much fun! If we had the money, I’d do it again every year!
I am a super organised person, so the planning in the lead up to the big day was really fun for me. I was lucky enough that Matt was always keen to be involved too, so it was nice to get to plan it all together.
Choosing where to have our wedding was the first decision we made. It really came down to finding somewhere that could accommodate our large number of family/friends for both the ceremony & reception (we didn’t want to travel between venues) and somewhere that had a decent wet weather plan that we’d be just as happy with if it did rain. Osteria had what we were looking for and once we locked that in, the rest was easy.
As we live in Brisbane, we decided to spend the whole week down in Kingscliff which really got us in the mood for the wedding. It was so nice to have a few nights to ourselves ‘on holidays’ and then our bridal party and their partners joined us which made it all the more fun and exciting! On the day, being really organised and having a great group of people around made it all run so smoothly and meant we could all enjoy ourselves!
Of course, I still ran a bit late – but it was raining when I left for the ceremony and then stopped as I arrived, so being late worked in my favour! The rain then held off until after we had our photos – so we got really lucky weather wise!
The ceremony was short and sweet and the reception was just a whole lot of fun. Geed Up were awesome and played a big part in making the atmosphere as good as it was! I loved that we were able to head outside and have our first dance under the stars, that was really sweet.

We didn’t have a set style in mind, I guess a ‘relaxed garden party’ would describe the ceremony and the reception we kept simple with lots of greenery, some flowers and fairy lights. The venue itself is beautiful so didn’t need too much. We opted for some simple furniture for the garden so that our guests were comfortable and then chose bright coloured flowers that would be the main feature in the ceremony space. Inside for the reception we couldn’t go past all the beautiful photos we had seen of the hanging installs – so organised one of those above each of our long tables.

“Moment Like This” by Leona Lewis: It was a song we had always liked, and it seemed to have the perfect lyrics to suit the big moment on our special day.

“White” by Tim Halperin: This song was written specifically as a first dance song and when we heard it, we just fell in love with the lyrics.

I work in events full time so I avoided doing too much DIY prep for our wedding. I wanted to let someone else do all the work for a change! We did do some spray painting of the wooden names we ordered as place settings which saved us a bit of money and we also created a wedding website which turned out to be really handy!

The whole day was so amazing, it’s hard to choose! I think we both loved the ceremony the most because it felt so special to finally be there and share our vows with each other… but the speeches, dancing and giant game of flip cup with all our family & friends were also highlights!

Relax and enjoy every minute!
Weddings can be super stressful for some people, so I’m so grateful that I was surrounded by such amazing & supportive people throughout the day. They kept me calm and made sure I enjoyed the whole experience rather than rushing around and stressing out! There is no point stressing about the timing or the weather or any of the little things that are bound to go wrong – just enjoy it all! The day goes so much quicker than you expect, so make sure you sneak away with your partner throughout the day/night to take it in and have a moment together.
