Brigette + Scott :: Coastal Chic at Ancora

Brigette and Scott’s luxe destination wedding at Ancora was all kinds of magic! Opting for a “coastal chic” vibe with bright pops of pink, white and timber, these two put complete trust in their wedding suppliers to bring their vision to life from afar.

From the lush, vibrant blooms by Florals and Co to the epic reception styling by Bliss and Willow (featuring tapered candles, rattan pendants and soft flowing linens), this stunning Ancora wedding is packed with wedding inspiration. We love how these guys totally personalised their day – electing for bridal portraits before the ceremony, and having their two dogs (and sweet 4-month old son, Eddie!) join them for their nuptials.

Keep scrolling to see all of the dreamy details captured by Ivy and Road Photography as Brigette and Scott talk us through their experience planning a Tweed Coast wedding from interstate, along with their fave moments from the day.

Living in rural North Queensland, organising our wedding was a bit hectic to say the least, but so so worth it. We chose the Tweed because I grew up there (Scott in Brisbane) so it was central for most of our family and friends. Living out in the dry country, it was a no brainer to have our ceremony near the water, and thus we found Ancora… and what a magnificent find it was!

For us it was important to have everyone feel apart of our celebration and to have them share special memories with us. We wanted our ceremony and reception to be authentic and a reflection of us. We wanted it to be cruisy with lots of laughter, a lot of dancing, and a lot of alcohol, food and cake!

Overall, our greatest fear going into the planning of the wedding was being so far away we weren’t able to just sit down and explain our vision and ask questions in that moment. We only had three physical meetings with our vendors about our wedding. One with the venue before we had really decided on anything, one with our amazing celebrant, Lei-ahna, two days before our big day, and one with Tracey our wonderful pet assistant who looked after our Golden Retriever and Labrador before and during the ceremony. I guess where I am going with this is that, even over many many emails, the vendors who helped organised our wedding were just incredible (also very tolerant of my many, many emails) and made it very easy to plan a wedding from so far away! So for anyone who is a bit nervous about organising a destination wedding, don’t be!

I guess I would describe the style as coastal chic with a feminine touch of pink tones. We love the coastal vibes of Ancora so I took advantage of this by sticking with the crisp whites and raw, rustic timbers.

I wanted to do something a little different with the venue and always wanted the flowers to be part of the ‘wow’ statement. I then wanted a little romantic magic mixed in there with the taper candles and lights above the bridal table arbour. To add in a touch of femininity and colour, I settled on a colour palette featuring different pink and white tones. With the help of Sarah from Florals and Co, and Chloe from Bliss and Willow, they absolutely nailed it! I cannot take any credit for the flower design at all, I just gave Sarah a colour palette and budget and she came up with the magic including almost every single flower in season! I remember walking in before the ceremony and being in complete awe of it all.

I walked down the aisle to ‘can you feel the love’ (Elton John) sung live by the extremely talented Jade and Lima Manu (Manu Music). Scott was playing cover songs on Spotify one day and the Boyce Avenue song played, and we liked it ever since then. I also love Disney, we both love the Lion King and when our son, Eddie, was a newborn, we would play him the Lion King soundtrack to dance to. It was also a perfect song for Jade and Lima to sing as a duet, and also happened to have a really good pace to walk down the aisle to! When you see the footage of the music first start playing you can literally hear everyone go ‘awwww’.

Our first dance song was Perfect, but the version by Beyonce and Ed Sheeran. Yes, it was cliche, but the song speaks a lot to Scott and I. Jade and Lima Manu performed a magical version of it for us and we were able to bring in our little Eddie to join us in the first dance.

With my knowledge with Indesign and Illustrator I designed all our invites, signage, menus and so forth and organised them to be printed. We also did up some thank you cards for guests to read on the night and had these put with delicious brownies from Boxed up Brownies. As the wedding was away from home we left the rest to the experts!

This is a tough question.

Brigette – For me, I think it was the ceremony. That’s when it really sunk it and I enjoyed listening to our ‘love story’ be told. I remember starting to cry as soon and Jade and Lima started singing and as cliche as it sounds, I got goosebumps. I remember looking around and seeing the dogs ready to walk down the aisle, my best friends beside me, my sister holding Eddie (our four month old son) and then I looked at Dad and I could tell he was nervous and emotional. Overall, our ceremony was so much fun. There were many laughs and a dolphin even made an appearance in the river behind. Lei-ahna was an incredible celebrant – she made the ceremony so entertaining!

Scott – I liked how we gave ourselves time after the ceremony and before the reception to sit and have a few drinks, relax and take it all in. Another moment I enjoyed was hearing how the celebrant had put our story together which she’d compiled from our questionnaire. That was clever and brilliant.

First, trust the professionals. You wouldn’t tell a lawyer how to do their job, or a teacher how to teach your children, so trust the professionals organising your day. Its what they’re good at! They work so hard to make your day so special. Because of them, we had a perfect wedding, and the most relaxed day where we were able to really sit back and enjoy every single moment.

Second, do you! Its your wedding, do what suits you. Ours was far from conventional. We had the groomsmen walk down the aisle with our dogs, we had bridal party photos before the ceremony, our vows were humorous, and the bridesmaids and I were barefoot pretty much all night.
