No matter how organised + well planned a wedding is, there are always things totally out of your control. Particularly for outdoor ceremonies, the weather is most certainly one of the biggest uncontrollables, but we love seeing couples embrace the less than ideal weather, just like Adelle and Angus did.

“Our wedding day was everything we wanted and more, just magic and a little bit moody thanks to the weather. Naturally, in the lead up to your big day, you picture perfect clear skies and sunshine!

This, however, would not be the story for us and we were not going to let the weather rain on our parade. The day was filled with wind, rolling fog, a little bit of sunshine, rain and a whole lot of love.”

Ardeena Estate was an easy choice for us, as soon as we arrived we both instantly loved it and the search for a venue started and ended right there. It’s the perfect mix of hinterland meets the coastline.

Ardeena’s a beautiful blank canvas with endless open & undercover spaces, this meant we had plenty of options to work with for our day.

We opted for a cocktail style gathering rather than being seated. We had a large number of guests travel to the coast for the occasion so we wanted everyone up and about!! The atmosphere was energetic and everyone really enjoyed themselves.”

Yellow by Coldplay. We are both Coldplay fans, especially myself. It’s simple, sweet and heartfelt.”

You Are the Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne. Angus is a Ray fan and this is a really beautiful song. Its a nice, slow, easy mover so it was perfect for the first dance as this wasn’t something we’d had time to practice, we just went with the flow of our hips and winged it.”

“We really enjoyed making some crafty little DIY touches for our wedding, it was a nice way to tie it all together and save on a couple of expenses which all counts when you’re planning the big day.

We made our own signage for the wedding schedule out of a wooden pallet and a wooden sign for the venue entrance to assist guests with the location. I have a friend who is very artistic so she assisted with the calligraphy on both of those signs.

We also made our own confetti cones out of brown craft paper & doily paper and our own wedding board welcome sign for the ceremony from a chalkboard I painted with gold trim, I sourced the decal stickers and adhered it to the chalkboard.

We did our own grazing table which was taken care of on the day by two of our friends and was an absolute hit apparently.”

“For me, my favourite moment was the ceremony. I loved walking down the aisle with my father to meet Angus. I absolutely loved our ceremony and reading our vows to each other which we had kept secret.

Angus agreed seeing his bride walk down the hill to the ceremony was also his favourite part of the day. As soon as the ceremony ended I wanted to do it all over again, it was perfect.

After signing the wedding certificate and the introduction as husband and wife our celebrant had one more very special announcement to make… Angus and I were also expecting a baby, which we’d kept secret from the guests until the day of the wedding. (I was 16 weeks pregnant and my choice of Grace Loves Lace dress concealed the bump reasonably well; well long enough to get through the ceremony).”

“A really nice tip given to me was; when walking down the aisle focus on your husband. It’s a once in a lifetime moment. The second tip; have a spare pair of comfy shoes to change into for later in the night. I didn’t plan on it but I ended changing into some ankle boots for the reception and it was the best thing ever on my feet after walking around for photos in the rain.”

Great advice Adelle!
