Abbey + David :: Modern Elegance at Osteria
Abbey and David’s simple yet modern and elegant wedding at Osteria was one we’ve been waiting to share! Once we received the sneak peek of the image gallery so beautifully captured by Ivy Road Photography, we knew it was going to be an absolute fan favourite!
With all the uncertainty of the lockdown and restrictions going into the Easter weekend, Abbey and David were ecstatic when all the restrictions were lifted the Monday before their wedding. All they had wanted after was to be able to celebrate their big day with all their family and friends and that they did! Their beautiful day was surrounded by all their friends, family + doggy, and loved ones and we could feel the joy and love that filled the entire day from the beginning to late hours of the night!
We are so excited to share the details of Abbey and David’s special day in their own words and all the gorgeous captures of special moments in between! Check out the beautiful details from their modern elegance wedding at Osteria below including some expert tips from the newlyweds!
ABOUT THE DAY //
Leading up to our wedding Brisbane went into the Easter long weekend lockdown and 2 weeks of mask wearing. NSW followed but the Monday before our wedding all restrictions were lifted. I am forever sympathetic for anyone who has had to reschedule their wedding due to covid but we were sooooo bloody lucky. I really feel like this added to our day and everyone was so grateful to be there and just so happy. I know I was over the moon ecstatic. It also put everything into perspective- I did not care about anything else but being able to have all my family and friends at our wedding. Rain hail, shine, literally whatever; to me it would not of mattered in the slightest. On the morning of our wedding I’d hired an Airbnb 5mins drive from Osteria. I got ready with my bridesmaids, MOH(my sister) and my mumma, plus all my nieces and nephews who were included in our ceremony. I have never been more calm and happy in my life. I’m still so unbelievably grateful for our luck with restrictions- we booked our wedding prior to covid and never had to reschedule.
The boys got ready in an Airbnb across the road from Osteria (walking distance) this meant if Dave forgot anything it wasn’t an issue.
What stood out to me on our special day was our choice in suppliers and venue. Every single person involved went above and beyond. I want everyone to have my suppliers and venue because seriously you will not be disappointed and they all knew what I wanted even if I didn’t know. Just do yourself a favour and book in everybody we chose.
We wanted our day to just feel like just a big party, easy and laidback for everyone. No moving from ceremony to reception. Great food and alcohol. And trust me, Osteria provided the goods.
In terms of styling I feel like I pretty much knew what I wanted – I like simple and less is more approach, otherwise I knew for me I’d look back and get over it. For me it wasn’t about choosing what was currently in but more choosing a few elements and sticking to that and boy did my coordinator ‘The Other Bridesmaid’ help me with all their suggestions, help, and overall unbelievable organisation skills. They thought of things I’d never even considered and styled everything on the day better than I ever could of imagined.
ABOUT THE STYLE //
In the words of my wedding coordinator – ‘ I’d say modern minimalist for sure – drawn from the aesthetic of a modern bride but pared back to ensure that it was soft and elegant’.
Our wedding style was mainly based off our colour scheme which was white and gold. I wanted our wedding to be simple, elegant and understated. I feel like this creates for a less is more approach. Sometimes more is not necessarily a good thing. I always knew this is what I wanted. My sister and ‘The Other Bridesmaid’ just helped bring it altogether plus all of our suppliers. I got inspo just from Instagram. I followed wedding pages and looked at real weddings on Insta.
CEREMONY SONG //
We had two ceremony songs – one which my beautiful flower girls and handsome ring bearers walked down the aisle to as well as my bridesmaids and MOH and one which I walked down the aisle too. They are Chateau by Angus and Julia Stone as it’s a favourite of Dave and I (probably a pretty unoriginal choice haha) and I walked down the aisle to To Build a Home by the Cinematic Orchestra. It’s such an amazing song and just really emphasises everything your already feeling in that moment. Shout out to my sister for helping me find that gem of a song.
FIRST DANCE SONG //
Our first dance was I’m With You by Vance Joy. Dave actually chose this and he was convinced it was the perfect first dance song for us. I wanted dancing in the moonlight by top loader but on the night I am so glad I let him have the final say. He liked it because he said he felt like it was us. Since our special day whenever it comes on he grabs me and starts dancing with me. He would hate me saying that on here.
DIY PROJECTS //
I actually can’t think of any DIY projects. I had ideas along the way but as everything came together I opted to either not have them or get it done professionally. For example I was going to do all of our stationery until I found Laura Elizabeth stationery.
FAVOURITE MOMENT //
OMG just every moment. How do you even choose? My Wedding couldn’t of been more perfect in my eyes. Nothing went wrong, not even slightly. So blessed. A favourite moment would have been the first time I saw Dave as I started walking down the aisle. At the end of the day I just wanted to marry my person and he was all I needed for it to be a great one so that would have to be it! He showed up everybody!
NUMBER ONE TIP //
Top tip – there’s too many! do not stress, it’s supposed to be fun, the most fun you have ever had. Who cares if something doesn’t go to plan! Makes for great stories and laughs. Also have a week day wedding – it’s cheaper so straight up you save a few thousand dollars and most people get weekends off so means you get an extended party, your day will fly by, make the most of it and plan things the day after on the Saturday or Sunday or both! Another thing is just stop and take in your day as much as you can, it goes too quickly and if you don’t, you won’t have had a chance to look at all the beautiful people who you are surrounded by. Also get a Wedding Coordinator and by wedding coordinator I mean ‘The Other Bridesmaid’ – this beautiful human is absolutely amazing in every way.
Another most important – especially for couples on budgets is don’t skip out on your photography/videography as they are your memories, the ones you get to share forever with everybody.
